Richard Haffenden is an open-minded, spontaneous, intense teacher. He started teaching in 1974, and has always had a deep passion for teaching students. In fact, he always said he loved his job so much that it didn’t feel like a job. Richard has now been teaching for 46 years. Not only has Richard been an impactful teacher but also a mentor to many upcoming teachers.

In this podcast, Richard shares how teaching came into his life and what the journey was like for him. Richard talks about his teaching philosophy and why it was so important for him to stick with it. He speaks on how a teacher's personality can have an impact on a student's success.

Richard shares his perspective on the role of discipline and how it plays into teaching. He then discusses the importance of connecting with each student on a deeper level. Something a lot of teachers do not get to experience.

Richard chats about what separates a good teacher from a great teacher. More importantly, he shares his perspective on the characteristics students want their teachers to possess. Lastly, Richard then gives valuable advice to anyone who is starting out in their teaching career.
